Grímsey in Steingrímsfjörður is the largest island in the Strandir region and a true natural gem where tranquillity, rich birdlife and breathtaking landscapes come together. The island is home to one of Iceland’s largest puffin colonies, with an estimated 25,000–30,000 breeding pairs nesting there each summer.

During the summer season, Malarhorn offers regular scenic sailings to Grímsey, accompanied by an experienced guide who shares stories of the region’s rich nature, history and remarkable birdlife. Sailings begin on June 15 and continue through mid-August, operating as long as weather and sea conditions allow.

The journey begins at the harbour in Drangsnes, with two daily departures available.

The sailing takes approximately three hours, including a scenic journey around the island before reaching the shore.
Upon arrival, guests have 1–2 hours in Grímsey to explore the surroundings, walk across the island, visit the lighthouse and take in the breathtaking coastal views.
